You probably saw this Back Buttoned Polkadot Top for a long time in my work in progress item. It’s finally finished. I used the same fabric for this Back Buttoned Polkadot Top as I did for this one. A piece of fabric was left which was just enough to make a short sleeved Top. The Top would have a seam at the center front or center back. This fabric was a gift from Nooteboom textiles during my participation in the KNIPmode 2016 sewing award. Named, an Indie pattern designer, has the Quinn blouse in his collection. I decided to use the idea of button plackets that are a little bit shorter then the actual blouse and do a twist by placing it at the back.
From idea to pattern
Having an idea is one thing but the key is how to to turn the idea into a good sewing pattern. I started with drafting a pattern that looked more like a blouse then a T-shirt. I decided to add a Peter Pan collar, a button placket and make a slightly high/low seam as well. The last step was choosing contrast fabric to make the collar and button placket.
