A new morning robe was on my to-do-list for almost a year. My old bathrobe had seen better days and although I hardly wear a morning robe there can be occasions that you need one. My old one was made of cotton terry but this time I wanted something more soft and warm. I bought some wellness fleece fabric during a short in Antwerp. The Slouchy Cardi, a free pattern from Peppermint Magazine, is used to make my morning robe.
Something about Wellness Fleece fabric
Wellness Fleece can be used on both sides: The ‘wrong’ side is soft and has short hairs. It’s warm and pleasantly to wear on the skin. It also a little stretch. The ‘right’ side looks like normal sweater fabric. The material is liegt weighted and will warm you instantly. One disadvantage: the finished morning robe isn’t suitable to wear on a wet skin.
Slouchy Cardi pattern alterations
I used size B because I wanted a more fitted look. The original hemline has a curve and was made straight.
I added a tie-off belt, the model of pockets is altered and also added 5 centimeters to the front pieces. The sleeves are finished with cuffs made of the soft ‘wrong’ side of the fabric to add some contrast. The same is done with the neckband, belt, belt loops and pocket facing.

My finished Wellness Fleece Morning Robe
I’m so pleased with my just finished new morning robe. The fitted model and the also more fitted sleeves are perfect. Great to wear when I’m feeling a little bit under the weather and want to stay a few hours in bed during the day as well. Sewing this morning robe took more time then I suspected. I counted two evenings for this make but it took me four evenings.
The dots had to be running through so extra time was needed to get this done. Stitching the wellness fleece wasn’t always easy. Two layers isn’t s problem but more layers are and then there’s the directional nap that also can cause some difficulty. But al this is now behind me. I’m no going to enjoy my fresh and new morning robe on a ‘off day’ and hope it will be usable for many many years.
I’d never thought about making a robe in fleece, but that’s so perfect for cold winter mornings! I’m always stealing my husband’s totally unfashionable hoodies, LOL! This is way better, and it’s in your colors!!
Our youngest used to have one in fleece. It’s indeed warmer than terry and so much comfortabeler.
Cozy and useful
It’s indeed comfortable and very useful.
Nice robe! It looks very cozy!
Thank you so much. It’s indeed very cozy: so soft and warm.
