DP Studio Fashion Pull Asymétrique Maille LE 002 is a pattern from DP Sudio Fashion, a French pattern designer brand. I came this pattern company when I saw this make on Kollabora. The Pull asymétrique has a twist that looks a bit like this Pattern Magic Top. I really liked the look and decided to purchase the pattern.

The pattern arrived four days later and comes in a beautiful box. Two pattern sheets and sewing instructions with illustrations in French and English are inside the box. I decided to trace size 38 (hips 94cm) based on my hip measurements (90 cm). The Pull asymétrique is described as a sweater with a contemporary style and easy to make. This Pull calls for a knit fabric that is not too stretchy.

The Pull Asymétrique was cut and sewn together. I pulled the sweater on and to my complete surprise it didn’t fit. It was too tight around my hips. Our eldest daughter was with us and she asked me how the Pull Asymétrique had to look like. I showed the image on internet but we also came across this make. She had the same problem like me and I wished I had came across her make earlier.

I first added two triangle shaped gussets at the bottom just like Chiche Boum Boum did but I didn’t like the outcome. My second attempt was creating another hemline. This alteration paid off: it looked so much better and most important it fitted. I also changed the neckline because it was also looking awkward. I could leave the zipper for about 10 cm open but I decided to cut the excess off. The new neckline has no zipper and is slightly raised at one side. The neckline is on the inside finished with a on the bias cut band of fabric. My sleeve hem still has the asymmetrical look but like de neckline a large piece of the fabric is also cut off.

I’m happy with my Asymétrique Maille Pull despite the alterations making it no longer resembles the original design. This is an expensive pattern and I had high expectations. The pattern is described as loose fittingloose fittingloose fitting and I was surprised it didn’t fit around my hips. I wasn’t able to measure the outcome before cutting due to the pattern constructions. I’ll try to make another version in the Autumn and draft another pattern using size 40 for my hips.

Het patroon zit in een mooie doos en kwam vier dagen later met de pakketdienst. De doos bevat twee patroonbladen en naai-instructie met tekeningen in Frans en Engels. Ik besloot maat 38 (heupomvang 94 cm) te gebruiken op basis van mijn eigen heupomvang (90 cm). De Pull asymétrique wordt omschreven als een eigentijds model dat makkelijk te maken is. Deze Pull wordt gemaakt van een gebreide stof met weinig rek.

De Pull Asymétrique werd geknipt en in elkaar gezet. Ik trok het aan en tot mijn stomme verbazing zat het strak om mijn heupen. Onze oudste dochter was op bezoek en vroeg mij hoe deze Pull Asymétrique er uit moest komen te zien. Ik liet de foto op internet aan haar zien maar zagen ook deze versie. Zij had hetzelfde probleem als ik en ik had graag deze versie eerder gezien.

Ik maakte eerst twee driehoekige inzetstukken aan de onderkant zoals Chiche Boum Boum ook deed maar was niet tevreden met het resultaat. Mijn tweede poging bestond uit het maken van een nieuwe zoomconstructie. Dit zag er beter uit en paste ook. Ik veranderde ook de halslijn die er ook vreemd uit zag. Ik zou de rits een stuk open kunnen laten maar ik besloot overtollige stof weg te knippen. De nieuwe halslijn heeft geen rits en is aan een kant lichtelijk verhoogd. De halslijn is aan de binnenkant afgewerkt met een smalle strook stof die biais geknipt is. Mijn mouwzoom heeft nog steeds de asymmetrische look maar ook hier zijn de lange flappen weggeknipt.

Ik ben tevreden met mijn Asymétrique Maille Pull ondanks de veranderingen waardoor het niet langer lijkt op het origineel. Dit is een duur patroon en ik had dan ook hoge verwachtingen. Het patroon wordt omschreven als iets ruimvallend en ik was dan ook verbaasd dat het niet over mijn heupen ging. Ik was helaas niet in staat om vooraf een en ander te meten wat komt door het ontwerp. Een nieuwe versie staat in de planning voor komende herfst en ik ga dan een nieuw patroon maken met heupmaat 40.

Thank you for your review! I just discovered DP Studio and wondered about its quality. Maybe using a stretchy knit contrary to the pattern recommendations would be a good idea to make sure it fit?
You’re welcome. I don’t know if it would work when you use a more stretchy knit, I’ve planned another version of the Le002 next year and I’m going to do some pattern alterations. I’m afraid but I don’t know if it’s true when I’m going to use a fabric with more stretch it would improve the fit. The pattern pieces of this sweater don’t have a straight grain everywhere so that’s my main concern. You can see the pattern lay-out on their website.
I can see why you were drawn to this pattern. That asymmetric feature is really a cool look on a sweater. Hopefully when you try it again, you’ll get something that’s more comfortable.

Such a shame that the pattern didn’t work but your remedy was great and the resulting top looks wonderful. I would be attracted by this pattern too, but don’t think I could be bothered making all those changes – too many other patterns in the world!
