Silky Mamma Spider – the pattern

Silky Mamma Spider is made of the new pattern from The Sweetbriar Sisters, the Spooky Spider. Jessica is a talented designer of wonderful toy patterns that makes great softies for kids. I had the pleasure of testing their newest pattern after testing Tully the Turtle. A spider this time and therefore a perfect sewing make for Halloween. The pattern comes in full-size and seam allowance are included. You’ve the wonderful option to make a Mamma Spider or a Baby Spider or perhaps make both. On every piece is written how many times to cut and out which fabric. Matching notches are drafted on the pattern pieces too. The instructions are well written and with clear pictures for the more visual sewer to help you from step one until you’ve finished the spider.

Silky Mamma Spider – my version

Silky Mamma Spider is made of silk fabric. I decided to give her contrasting legs. I made my legs of black heavy lining fabric. The white of the eyes is made of white cotton fabric and sewn on the body with a small narrow zigzag stitch. I ironed some fusible interfacing on the back of the cotton to give it some firmness. I did the same also on the back of the front body but not only on the position of white eye but also on the place of the month. Instead of safety eyes I used a button with a concave shape and a little white pearl bead. Both are sewn on carefully and well attached so they won’t come loose when the spider is given to a child. The month is done with a decorative stitch from my sewing machine using a slight thicker yarn.

Silky Mamma Spider – the make experience

The Mamma Spider was a joy to make. The pattern came easy together. The Mamma Spider is perfect for a beginner sewer who is looking for an easy pattern with great outcome. Therefore I can highly recommend it. Just like Tully the Turtle is great to see that only six the same body parts can make these amazing softy. The fabric choice will largely determine the outcome of the spider. My version happily sits in our windowsill watching everything passing by. She’s a friendly and lovely inmate.

Silky Mamma Spider is gemaakt van het nieuwste patroon van The Sweetbriar Sisters, the Spooky Spider. Jessica is een getalenteerde ontwerpster van fantastisch speelgoed patronen om er leuke zacht speelgoed van te maken. Ik had het genoegen dit nieuwe patroon nadat ik eerder Tully the Turtle had getest. Een spin deze keer en daarom een leuke aardigheid om voor Halloween te maken. Het patron wordt op ware grootte geleverd inclusief naadtoeslagen. Ook kun je kiezen voor een Mamma Spider of een Baby Spider. Op elk patroon staat beschreven hoe vaak je het moet knippen en uit welke stof. Markeerpunten geven aan wat op wat aansluit. De instructie is duidelijk en de bijgeleverde tekeningen zijn een extra hulp.

Silky Mamma Spider – mijn versie

Silky Mamma Spider is gemaakt van stevige voeringstof. Ik besloot de spin contrasterende poten te geven, gemaakt van stevige voeringstof. Het wit van de ogen is gemaakt van katoen en op het lijf gestikt met een smalle zigzag met wat instrijkbaar vlieseline voor stevigheid. Het instrijkbare vlieseline zit ook ter hoogte van de mond die ik maakte met de drievoudige steek die op mijn naaimachine zit. Inplaats van veiligheidsogen gebruikte ik twee knopen waar ik een witte kraal bovenop naaide.

Silky Mamma Spider – mijn ervaring

The Mamma spider was leuk om te maken en was eenvoudig om te maken. Een beginnende naaier heeft hier een leuk project aan. Ik kan het dan ook van harte aanbevelen. Net zoals Tully the Turtle is het fantastisch om te zien dat zes identieke patroondelen een leuke knuffel kunnen opleveren. De stofkeuze zal in hoge mate het uiterlijk van de spin bepalen. Mijn versie zit gezellig in de vensterbank alles te bekijken. Zij is een vriendelijke huisgenote.
