Atelier Caroline patron lutin

We zijn niet ver meer verwijderd van Kerstmis. Uiteraard komt Sinterklaas nog maar met nu alvast kerstversiering maken is natuurlijk niets mis. Al een tijdje staat ‘an elf on the shelf’ op mijn ‘verlanglijstje’.
A few years ago I came across ‘elf on the shelf’ when I was looking for homemade Christmas decorations. You can find lots of patterns to make one. My version of the Atelier Caroline patron lutin is now every day in a different place in our house.

Een kleine Elf on the shelf informatie

Carol Aebersold en haar dochter Chanda Bell schreven in 2004 een boek over ‘Elf on the shelf’. Dit boek gaat over speciale elfjes die de kerstman helpen. Ze verstoppen zich in huizen, vliegen ’s nachts naar de Noordpool en vertellen de kerstman wat ze zoal gezien hebben. De volgende ochtend zitten ze weer op in andere plek in de huizen. Mocht je er één tegenkomen dan is het de bedoeling dat je de elf ongemoeid laat.

‘Elf on the shelf’ can be found in a book written by Carol Aebersold and her daughter Chanda Bell. It’s about elves who help Santa. They watches children in their homes and make notes on their naughty/nice list. Each night, the elves returns to the North Pole to report their findings to Santa. Once the elf is on a shelf you never allowed to touch it because the elf will lose its magic.

Mijn versie van het Atelier Caroline patron lutin

Het leuke aan het Atelier Caroline patron lutin is dat het een gezicht heeft met een echte kin en neus. De beschrijving is in het Engels met duidelijke foto’s en toegevoegde naadwaarden. Zo leerde ik weer een paar nieuwe trucjes zoals het maken van het haar en de bevestiging op het hoofd. Ook de kraag heeft een ingenieuze sluiting waardoor je het eenvoudig kunt vervangen.

Ik koos voor diverse onderdelen andere materialen. Hoedrand is van witte teddy stof en schoenen van zwart nepleer in plaats van vilt. De wangetjes zijn van roze vilt en met een zigzagsteek op het gezicht gestikt. Oorspronkelijk heeft de elf een hansopje aan. Hierdoor heeft de elf veel weg van een jongetje.

Als je een los rokje maakt kun je er op eenvoudige wijze een meisjes elf van maken. Ik maakte een soort paperbag rokje met een rand van witte teddy stof.

My experience with the Atelier Caroline patron lutin

What I really liked about this pattern is that the face has a realistic chin and nose. Instructions are in English with illustrations. The pattern has added seam allowances. The making of the hair and the clever closure of the collar are great features of this pattern. I used some different materials. I used white faux fur for the hat border and black faux leather for the shoes in stead of felt.

The cheeks are made of pink felt and sewn on with a small zigzag stitch. The original elf is wearing a onesie so it can be looking a bit like a boy elf. You can easily turn it in to a girl version. Make a small paperbag skirt and finish it with white faux fur border and you’re done. So you can decided each year if you want a boy or girl elf in your house.
