This four piece Homemade Boys Winter Set is my entry for the Sew Long Summer Blog Tour. Melissa Evans of mahlicadesigns is the host of this blog tour. We had some hot sunny days at the end of August so this weather didn’t inspired me to think about Autumn and Winter clothes. I started knitting a cardigan for a little boy this Spring. I’m not a confident and fast knitter so it took until the beginning of August to finish it. I already had plans to make also matching pants, a beanie and a tee so this idea sounded perfect for this blog tour.

The knitted cardigan
I found the pattern for this cardigan on Ravelry and used two skeins and some leftover black to make size 12 mths. The pattern is easy to follow but I made a mistake making the armholes.

The way the instructions are written was new to me so after knitting 4 rows I saw something wasn’t going in the right direction. After reading the instructions again and counting the stitches it was clear to me how the armholes needed to be knit.

Sewing the other three pieces
The pants is from a self drafted pattern and redrafted into size 80, the beanie pattern is enlarged too and the Misusu Max Tee was used for the Tee.

I’ve finished with elastic rib at the ankles for my comfort during Autumns and Winter. The Max Tee pattern was this time altered in a round neck version. This finished four piece Homemade Boys Winter Set will go the Stichting Babyspullen.

Time and Costs
Time: knitting the cardigan 40 hours; cutting and sewing the pants 3 hours, the tee 2,5 hours and the beanie 1 hour
Costs: fabric came from donations or are leftovers; yarn € 2,50; elastic € 0,50; knopen € 2,50

Wow, this is amazing work! I do wonder about taking up a yarn based hobby but I really shouldn’t start new hobbies LOL.
Thank you so much. LOL I think this two yarn based hobbies are enough for me. Knitting is challenging but sewing is more my piece of cake.
Such a great set! Love the knitting and the matching garments!
Thank you so much for your kind words. Knitting the cardigan was really challenging for me.
I always wanted to learn to knit
I’m not a very confident knitter. So if it’s garter, knit, mosaic or cables and a not complicated pattern with knitting instructions than I’m fine. This cardigan stretched my knitting skills.
I love your little set and I’m super jealous of your knitting skills! What a gorgeous sweater!
Thank you so much for your kind words. I’m not a confident knitter at all so it took me ages to finish it. I’ve surprised myself. I hope this set will find a good home.
This set is so cute! I can’t believe how long that tiny cardi took to knit, but what a result!
Thank you so much. It took a me a while. I was knitting each evening a few rows because I’m not such a confident knitter. Founding matching fabrics for it was such a luck and I as always I was surprised how much I’ve stored.
What a beautiful set you’ve made to share. I’m sure you will be making a family feel very special with these handcrafted pieces. Thank you for sharing.
Thank you so much Melissa. It’s always a pleasure to be part of your blog tours. You’re such a great host.
