Wildling Dolly becomes Pirate King Boy is made of a pattern from Jeanine Thomlinson of StitchART. I follow her on IG and a couple of days ago she did a call for pattern testers for her new pattern especially the boy version. Making a kind of rag doll was still on my wish list so this was a good encouragement to make one. At that moment I was working on my chino. The fabrics on the table inspired me to make a boy version based on the picture I saw on IG. I started making plans how I wanted the boy to look like. I made a sketch in my notebook and I started copying the pattern pieces. Wildling Dolly is made while I was sewing my chino as well. Both projects use the same yarn colours and therefor it was easy to do it at the same time.

Making the Wildling Dolly becomes Pirate King Boy

This rag doll pattern asks for a free sewing motion feet to make the eyes, cheeks and mouth. I don’t have a free motion feet on my machine so I made the eyes and cheeks from fabric, stabilised them with fusible interfacing and using a small zigzag to sew them on the face. The mouth is made with the three way stitch that comes with my sewing machine. The boy had a long sleeved shirt and therefore I gave him hands using the same fabric that was used for the face. His boots are made of black cotton velvet. The crown is made of some leftover yellow fabric. I decided to leave the crown open on the top so one can see the beautiful lining. The eyepatch is sewing on the crown between the top fabric and the lining. The red belt is made of a piece of lining silk.

My experience with the Wilding Dolly pattern

I really enjoyed making the Wildling Dolly and I love the look when he becomes a Pirate King. The instructions are well written and easy to follow. The instruction is also well documented with lots of pictures for a more visual sewer. Wildling Dolly is surprisingly easy to make and any starting sewer has a great looking project when it’s finished. I really can recommend this pattern when you’re looking for a rag doll type of doll. The masks are a great addition and will give the doll easily another look. This is also a great project to use all kind of leftover fabrics and make a small child happy with something to play with. What a great idea for a small gift for X-mas.

I was telling you about my chino in this post. Where is it you’re probably asking. Well it’s almost finished. Just need the sew the buttons on, give it a good press and the photo shoot can begin.

Het patroon voor de Pirate King Boy

Wildling Dolly becomes Pirate King Boy is gemaakt van een patroon getekend door Jeanine Thomlinson van StitchART. Ik volg haar op IG en enige dagen geleden deed zij een oproep om haar nieuwste patroon te testen en dan met name de jongens versie. Het maken van een rag doll stond al enige tijd op mijn ’to do lijstje’ dus dit was een prima moment. Op dat moment was ik bezig met mijn chino. De stoffen die op tafel lagen gaven mij inspiratie voor mijn versie na het zien van het plaatje op IG. Ik maakte een schetsje en kopieerde het patroon. Deze Pirate King Boy is gemaakt tegelijkertijd met mijn chino. Voor beide moest ik dezelfde kleuren garen gebruiken, dus beide maken was wel zo handig.

Het maken van de Pirate King Boy

De ogen, wangen en mond van de rag doll patroon worden met een free sewing motion naaivoet gemaakt. Ik heb geen free motion naaivoet zodat ik de ogen en wangen van stof verstevigd met vlieseline heb gemaakt en vervolgens met een smalle zigzag op het hoofd genaaid. De mond is gemaakt met de drievoudige rechte steek. De jongen heeft een shirt met lange mouwen en daarom heb ik handjes gemaakt van dezelfde stof die voor het gezicht gebruikt is. De schoenen zijn van zwart fluweel en de kroon is gemaakt van een restje gele stof. Ik besloot de kroon aan de bovenkant open te laten waardoor de voering zichtbaar is. Het ooglapje is aan de kroon vast gestikt. De rode strikceintuur is gemaakt van voeringstof.

Mijn ervaring met Wildling Dolly patroon

Ik vond het erg leuk om the Wildling Dolly te maken en hoe hij eruit ziet als Pirate King. De naai-instructie is goed beschreven en ook zijn er duidelijke plaatjes voor diegene die dat plezieriger vindt werken. Wildling Dolly is gemakkelijk te maken en iedere beginner heeft aan het einde een leuke pop. Ik beveel het dan ook van harte aan als je op zoek bent naar een patroon voor een rag doll. De maskers zijn een leuke toevoeging en geven de pop direct een ander uiterlijk. Daarnaast is het een geweldige manier om van restjes stof af te komen. Misschien iets voor Sinterklaas als cadeautje voor een klein kind.
