Sewing More Mens Wear Part 1 – the T-shirts

Sewing More Mens Wear Part 1 starts with my husbands white T-shirts. Almost a year ago I offered my husband to make his T-shirts. The T-shirts he bought were always to short. I just finished making version 4 and still there are some points of improvement in his opinion. He is happy with the finished neckline. I finished the neckline this time the same as I did with my last five top sewings. I also sewed at the hem V4 on both T-shirts. It’s hard to see the difference between all the versions and this way I can tell the versions apart. I’ve already bought some new white jersey at Stoffenspektakel recently to sew version 5. After pre-washing and finishing other projects I’ll start making them.

While I was sewing the two male chino trousers our youngest daughter was visiting us. We were talking about the alterations and fitting of these chino’s. She also heard about the fitting issues of her fathers T-shirts. She had an explanation for the wishes of both men. When you buy clothes in a shop you finally choose that garment that fits and suits you the best. That doesn’t necessarily mean that it is 100% perfect, but it is at that moment the best you can find. However if someone is making something for you want a 100% perfect fit garment. I then realised that both men are not unlike myself.

Sewing More Mens Wear Part 1 – the boxershorts

The fabrics for these four boxershorts were bought on the same day as for the male chino trousers. A while ago I made this boxershort for him and after wearing it a few times he was very pleased with the finishing of the waistband. Therefore I decided to finish these new four the same way. I also unpicked two earlier finished boxershorts with the three rows of small elastic. The small elastic was turning and twisting while wearing and and therefore it didn’t feel comfortable. Both are now finished with the same broad elastic waistband. What I couldn’t achieve with the T-shirts happened with the boxershorts. I now have a perfect version for the next and following boxershort that can be copied.

Sewing More Mens Wear Part 1 begint met mijn echtgenoot’s witte T-shirts. Bijna een jaar geleden bood ik mijn echtgenoot aan om zijn T-shirts te maken. De T-shirts die hij kocht waren altijd te kort. Ik heb zojuist versie 4 gemaakt en er zijn nog steeds een aantal punten die hij graag verbetert wil zien. Hij is tevreden met de halsafwerking. Ik heb deze keer voor dezelfde afwerking gekozen als voor mijn laatste vijf tops die ik heb gemaakt. Ik heb alweer nieuwe witte jersey om versie 5 te kunnen maken op Stoffenspektakel. Na het voorwassen en het afronden van een paar andere projecten ga ik aan de volgende versie beginnen.

Terwijl ik the two male chino trousers aan het maken was hadden we onze jongste dochter op bezoek. We hadden het over aanpassingen aan de pasvorm van de chino’s. Zij hoorde ze ook van alles over de T-shirts van haar vader. Zij kwam met een verklaring voor deze wensen. Als je kleren koopt in de winkel dan stap je naar buiten met dat kledingstuk dat je het beste past en staat. Dat betekent niet dat je dan ook 100% tevreden bent, maar het is het beste wat er op dat moment is. Als het daar en tegen gemaakt wordt dan wil je een 100% perfect kledingstuk. Ik realiseer me dat zij dus niet anders zijn dan dat wat ik zelf wil.

De stof voor deze vier boxershorts is gekocht terwijl we de stof kochten voor the male chino trousers. Een tijdje gelden maakte ik deze boxershort for hem en na een paar dragen was hij tevreden met de afwerking van de tailleband. Daarom besloot ik deze vier op dezelfde wijze af te werken. Ik tornde ook van twee eerder gemaakte boxershorts het smalle elastiek eruit. Het smalle elastiek sloeg tijdens het dragen om en dat wat alles behalve plezierig. Beide zijn nu ook met het brede elastiek afgewerkt. Wat mij nog niet gelukt is met de T-shirts heb ik wel bereikt met de happened boxershorts. Ik heb nu een perfecte versie die ik voor de volgende en alles wat daarop volgt kan gebruiken.
