March Visitings Gemeentemuseum Den Haag is all about my two visits in March to this museum. Paying a monthly visit to a museum and using my Museumkaart is part of my Bucket List 2017 goals. I went to the Hague Gemeentemuseum to see Givenchy and De Stijl. I visited Givenchy with a friend and De Stijl with my husband.
March Visitings Gemeentemuseum Den Haag – the museum
The Dutch architect Hendrik Berlage designed the Hague Gemeentemuseum. He also designed the Amsterdam Commodities Exchange. This building is an example of his early Neo-Romanesque brickwork combined with Jugendstil. Hendrik Berlage visited the United States of America in 1911 and was acquainted with the work of Frank Lloyd Wright. The Hague Gemeentemuseum is an example of his modern architecture work. This museum has a permanent exhibition of Mondriaan’s work including his last piece the famous not finished Victory Boogie Woogie.
Homemade Easter Decorations is a sewing project using leftover fabrics and discarded clothes. I made the last years some Christmas decorations and decided to do the same for Easter. I found a lot of inspirations on Pinterest and decided to make some flowers, a bunny and a fabric egg.
Homemade Easter Decorations – the fabric tulips
Our youngest gave me a couple years back two long glass vases. They are standing a few years on our windowsill. I had already decided that I wanted to make some fabric flowers for them using leftover fabrics. I found some blue fabrics in my leftover stash and used this TNT pattern to make them. All fabrics are a kind of denim so this was a little bit harder to work with then the usual fabric. Two evenings later six tulips were standing in both vases.
Theo overhemd korte mouwen versie is also one of the versions that can be found on the Theo overhemd pattern. The fabric came from the Stoffenspektakel. I visited it on Sunday February 19th to buy fabric for the short sleeved version and I found some beautiful dark blue fabric with small grey dots. There was just enough left to make a short sleeve version so I considered myself to be a very lucky person. The stall also had matching grey fabric with dark blue dots. I decided to use that for my contrast fabric and also buy enough to make a fourth version of the Theo overhemd later this year.
Theo overhemd klassieke versie is made of beautiful light blue cotton. This fabric was also bought at the Stoffenloods just like I did for this make. The fabric is a woven fabric with a beautiful diamond shaped design. I choose to make a classic look due to the beautiful light blue classic colour and the classic design of the fabric.
Theo overhemd klassieke versie – the alterations
I already told you about the minor changes I wanted to make. The yoke was redrafted by shifting the outer shoulder point for 0.5 centimeters to the font. My husband also wanted his armhole a little bit lower. I also changed the shape of the tail hem and added a triangle gusset. This version has two back pleats to give this version a little bit more space to move the arms while he’s working at the office. He also wanted the sleeves a little bit narrower because this would give a better fit under his suits.
Theo overhemd weekend versie is the first version in a serie of three makes. Zonen09 is a Belgium brand. They design patterns for men and boys. Melissa Evans is the host of the Breaking Ground project blog tour. She has hosted this one as well. I had no idea what I wanted to make for the blog tour but after a while I decided to make menswear for this blog tour. I’ve made some menswear before like these T-shirts, boxershorts and chino’s. This weekend versie was also a kind of test version but the fit is almost perfect so it turned out as a very wearable make.
Early 60s styled High-necked Top is made of some leftover fabric. This dress is made of the same fabric. I saw in one of the episodes of Endeavour a top with princess seams and a crew boat-ish neckline. Endeavour is a British television detective drama series and is a prequel to the long-running Inspector Morse. The Endeavour serie is set in Oxford just like the Inspector Morse serie. I really liked the look of this top and decided that I wanted to try to make my version of that top. This top in a shop window looked a bit like the one from the television just like this knitted version found on the internet.
Early 60s styled High-necked Top – the fabric
The piece of leftover fabric was about 80 centimeters and also one odd shaped piece so I was limited by the amount of fabric. I decided to turn the fabric 90° because it is a 4-way stretch. I now had a little bit more fabric to play with but there still wan’t enough to make a full sleeve length. A cuff solved this problem.
Februari roundup bucket list 2017 is about what I did during the second month of 2017 with my fifteen items on my 2017 bucket list. I’ve been sewing, started knitting and the daily cooking but also kept walking and we’ve visited two museums.
Februari roundup bucket list 2017 – cooking
I’ve used some of the recipes that came from the magazine I showed last month. The leek clafoutis was made twice because everyone loved it. I also started baking something sweet each week. The ‘Boer zoekt Vrouw’ show started two weeks ago and just like last year I make something sweet. All recipes are chosen from the countries were the farmers are living. You can read about all my makes when the farmers have chosen the one they will hopefully share the rest of their life with.
Februari roundup bucket list 2017 – The knitting
One of the bucket list items is to knit at least one item using yarn from my stash. I started almost three weeks ago and I’m using this pattern. The shawl will be rectangle but without the triangulair beginning and end. This shawl has short rows sections. Knitting short rows is something I’ve done only once so this a real challenge for me.
Rabbit Fabric Morning Robe is made for our youngest daughter. She loves rabbits and a while ago I made two sleep shirts for her using rabbit fabric. I also made this crazy apron and this lovely cushion for her. She was in need for a new morning robe. I found some lovely blue rabbit fabric that felt soft and warm last year and seems to be perfect to make a new morning robe. Cotton and polyester is the base of this fabric combined with 4% Elasthan. The inside has fine soft alpine fleece. I finally had time to draft a pattern and started sewing.
Home printing PDF sewing patterns Costs is about the price of printing a PDF sewing pattern at home on your home printer. I never bothered about the costs until I printed a new PDF sewing pattern that I wanted to use. This pattern was 40 pages so it was a large package of paper. When I was holding all this paper sheets in my hand I started thinking about costs.
Home printing PDF sewing patterns Costs – the print price
I always end a sewing post with the costs of a project. I never thought including printing costs so with this just printed pattern I started a little research on the internet. Printing costs starts with the type of printer. The cheapest printer is a laser printer. A PDF-print of a sewing patterns doesn’t take many inkt so the paper costs are the highest. We have a laser printer so after some calculation one printed paper sheet would costs probably something like € 0,05.
