This pants are customized to go over the cast for our eldest daughter. A couple of weeks she has been operated a and has two legs in cast. Most of the times she wears a pair of jogging trousers, but she wanted a pair suitable pants to wear outside the house.
The alterations
I started with a RTW bought trousers and ripped the side seam out from the end of the pockets to the bottom. In my leftover fabric we found some black and dark grey. After some fabric matching and color discussion for the gussets she decided that she wanted them in dark grey. The next step was to work out how wide the gussets would have to be at hem of the pants. Another thing to be aware of was the final result after the alterations: the proportions in the pants had to stay in balance. After a few attempts the pants had the right proportions and the wide was big enough. Sewing the gussets in the legs and the hemming were done in one hour. The only thing left was doing some pressing and the pants were ready to wear.
