I usually wear a jeans with a cardigan or jacket because someone has to to he cooking. I’ve my party outfit already finished but it’s part of the Let’s Sti(c)k Together blogtour. This blogtour is scheduled for next week and therefore I show my Black-White boucle short cardigan today. This cardigan was a lucky found and also a perfect match with my party outfit.

Named Talvikki sweater versie 2

Grey White graphic design Leisure wear male T-shirt

Almost a week ago I showed this make for my husband and wrote that he wanted the next one in a more lighter colour. I was about to plan a trip together to visit some fabric stores when I came across this fabric. This Grey White graphic design fabric is from the Fabric collection of La Maison Victor by Editex. I bought it at Stik’nStof in Leiden. Leiden has a market in Wednesday and during lunchtime I decided to do a walk and visit the market. There’s always at least one fabric stall and a couple of weeks ago I bought here some fabric to make a dress for our youngest daughter because she had to attend a wedding. On my way back I came across Stik’nStof and I decided to take a look there as well. They have a beautiful fabric collection and this fabric is one of them.

Jeans Blue/Black vertical stripes Mens T-shirt

The Dutch phrase for this Jeans Blue/Black vertical stripes Mens T-shirt would be ‘mijn man heeft een streepje voor’: This time my husband was in my good books. The funny part in the Dutch phrase is ‘streepje’ – ‘stripe’. Sometimes it isn’t possible to write a blog post in two languages and making the ‘playing with words’ happen. I came across this fabric some weeks ago while I was buying haberdashery. I haven’t any suitable fabrics for my husband in my fabric stash so every time I see something suitable for him I buy it. Stripes never loose style and a T-shirt made of this fabric would look casual and smart on his jeans.

The pattern

I used the male underwear TNT T-shirt for this Jeans Blue/Black vertical stripes Mens T-shirt. It was also used to make this T-shirt as well. I started making my husband white underwear T-shirts in December 2015. He still isn’t happy with the fit because he wears them under his dress shirts in his spare time. The leisure wear version are always a bit looser and they always seem to have a perfect fit. I still need to work a little bit on the perfect fit for the underwear version.

The fabric

This fabric can be used on both sides. I decided to play a little bit with the stripes and to make it not to much I used the plane side instead of the one with the small stripes. This fabric was also a little bit heavier then the usual fabric I use for his T-shirt but it still has the same stretch. It looks a bit like a light weight Ponte di Roma but the shop assistant told me it wasn’t. The ticket on the fabric wasn’t of any help either.

The make

Pocket, neckline and sleeves are finished with some plane black jersey. I first used the the other side of the fabric but knowing my husband he would prefer the plane details above the other side of the fabric. I spend a lot of sewing time to let the stripes running perfect. The IDT-syteem on my sewing machine helps to control the fabric so it’s fed evenly from both top and bottom. The fabric doesn’t slip while sewing although a few pins are still needed and some basting helps too. Three sewing evenings later and the Jeans Blue/Black vertical stripes Mens T-shirt was ready to wear.

The fit of the Jeans Blue/Black vertical stripes Mens T-shirt

My husband is pleased with the fit of his new leisure T-shirt. It looks great on his jeans. He already asked me to make another one but this time he wants some more lighter colours. I think we need to spend some time to go to a few fabric stores and see what we can find.

Time and Costs:

Time: cutting 1 hour (this time getting the stripes right is the time consuming part of the cutting process), sewing 8 hours (I basted the T-shirt this time)
Costs: Fabric € 15,00, Yarn € 3,00

Jeans Blue/Black vertical stripes Mens T-shirt

Kosten: Stof € 15,00, Garen € 3,00

Elle Puls Bethioua Back Yoke Raglan Top

Elle Puls Bethioua Back Yoke Raglan Top sounds like a mouthful but there’s no better way to describe this ingenious designed Top. This pattern was in my stash for a while now. I also had some leftover black/white stripped fabric from this make. Put this two together and you have my version of the Elle Puls Bethioua Back Yoke Raglan Top. Sounds easy. It only takes some sewing time. So here we go and read more about my experience with this pattern.

Elle Puls Bethioua Back Yoke Raglan Top

The design of the Elle Puls Bethioua Back Yoke Raglan Top

This top is designed for knitted fabrics like French Terry, Jersey and Sweater Knit. It has a long-sleeved raglan at the front and a curved back yoke with a center back seam. All this elements give you all kinds of possibilities to play with stripes, mixing different fabrics or colours. The hem is slightly lower at the back and the top has a scoop neck. Elke Puls made some different sleeve lengths. The tutorial can be found here. There’s also a dress version and a tutorial to make a bell sleeved version. The pattern comes in size 34 – 54. You can find two measurements in the sewing instructions: one to choice the size and one for the actual finished size.

Homemade Black White striped asymmetric cut Top

Homemade Black White striped asymmetric cut Top is designed for my mother. She wanted another Top after I made this one for her. She told me she wanted a Black White stripe fabric or Blue White stripe. I asked her if she liked an asymmetrical look and made a sketch to show her what I had in mind. My mother loved the idee so I took the sketch with back home.

Back Buttoned Polkadot Top

You probably saw this Back Buttoned Polkadot Top for a long time in my work in progress item. It’s finally finished. I used the same fabric for this Back Buttoned Polkadot Top as I did for this one. A piece of fabric was left which was just enough to make a short sleeved Top. The Top would have a seam at the center front or center back. This fabric was a gift from Nooteboom textiles during my participation in the KNIPmode 2016 sewing award. Named, an Indie pattern designer, has the Quinn blouse in his collection. I decided to use the idea of button plackets that are a little bit shorter then the actual blouse and do a twist by placing it at the back.

From idea to pattern

Having an idea is one thing but the key is how to to turn the idea into a good sewing pattern. I started with drafting a pattern that looked more like a blouse then a T-shirt. I decided to add a Peter Pan collar, a button placket and make a slightly high/low seam as well. The last step was choosing contrast fabric to make the collar and button placket.

GBSB Drapey Knit Dress refitted

You find a pattern you really like. Everything looks perfect: beautiful details and style features and when it’s finished you aren’t entirely happy with the result. I made the GBSB Drapey Knit dress almost two years ago and although there’s nothing wrong with my make I wore it only a few times and last year it didn’t came out of my closet. The used fabric was letting it down. I used a light weight knitted fabric suitable to make Tops but not for this dress. While I was writing this post I came across this blogpost. Sarah made a dress but wasn’t entirely happy with the result. Just like me she was thinking about a solution how to turn it into a dress that made her happy. GBSB Drapey Knit Dress refitted is my refitting story of this dress.

KNIPmode kokerrok augustus 2016 model 13

Our youngest daughter wanted a new pencil skirt. She wears pencil skirts at work. I made this one for her and also this one but this time she wanted a more stylish looking skirt. KNIPmode showt this model in augustus 2016 edition. This pencil skirt has two triangel shaped panels. Both triangel shaped panels give the pencil skirt an asymmetrical look. The figure darts in the front are moved to these triangel shaped panels. The figure darts of the back pattern are moved to the side seams. This pencil skirt comes with a slit at the back. I bought some beautiful dark grey light weight Ponti di Rome to make this KNIPmode kokerrok augustus 2016 model 13. This type of fabric has just enough stretch to give this skirt a comfortable fit and makes it easy two wear.

Leisure Time Two Coloured Mens T-shirt

I used the self drafted pattern that is the same as for all the white T-shirts I’ve been making for my husband to make this Leisure Time Two Coloured Mens T-shirt. The fabric was found at Stoffenbeurs in Haarlem that was held on the last Sunday of March. I was looking for white jersey fabric to make some more new white T-shirts. That fabric wasn’t found but I saw some blue jersey fabric with a black stripe that would be perfect to make a Leisure time T-shirt.

First step

I always pre-wash fabrics so the finished garment will not shrink anymore. Some fabrics can also be treated with starch or other chemicals to give them for example a shine. Pre-washing will also remove this starch and chemicals. This fabric lost 4% of its length and 2% of its width after pre-washing. I ironed the fabric and started cutting.
