Elke Puls is a German Indie pattern designer. She designs clothes but also the Chobe bag. Pfaff invited her to design a new bag for their YourStyle Magazin Frühling 2019 edition. The bag is called the Elle Puls Anja shopper.
The pattern for the Elle Puls Anja shopper
Elke asked her pattern testing team who was willing to make a version of this bag. The model looked easy to make and comes with good sewing instructions. I’m not an experienced bag maker but I decided to give it a go.
Fabrics for this bag: solid woven fabrics like denims, canvas and leather. You can use interfacing to give the bag more strength if you wish.
I made my version from discarded jeans and cork leather for the bottom and bag handles.
I’ve changed the size of the slip pockets so they can hold my GSM, E-reader, notebook and pencil. My version also has an inside pocket that closes with a zipper and a key-cord.
The bag handles
Like I said my bag handles are made of the cork leather. I sewed two piece together wrong side in.
The finished bag handles were to broad due to the fact they were cut with seam allowances. I cut off the seam allowances on one side and reused the small stripes. I sewed them in the middle of the handles using a three double zigzag stitch.
The handles are placed between two stripes of jeans to add some detail on the outside of the bag.
Time and Costs
Time: unpicking 3 jeans 4 hours; cutting 90 minutes; stitching and finishing 10 hours
Costs: pattern printing and assembling € 2,25; cork leather € 10,00; fabric for the inside € 3,00; yarn € 7,00 (topstitching the jeans pieces and handles was ‘eating’ yarn); musketon hook € 0,50
My Jeanius Elle Puls Anja shopper experience
I made this bag and also the recessed zipper construction without any problems. The cork leather was an new experience and my sewing came easy trough all the layers. The finished bag has a good size and can easy hold my laptop its well.
