Homemade Black White striped asymmetric cut Top is designed for my mother. She wanted another Top after I made this one for her. She told me she wanted a Black White stripe fabric or Blue White stripe. I asked her if she liked an asymmetrical look and made a sketch to show her what I had in mind. My mother loved the idee so I took the sketch with back home.

The Belgium trip
I’ve not a large fabric stash. My mother wanted a more heavier weight fabric then I used for this make. Our youngest daughter wanted new shampoo which only could be bought at Carrefour. She bought a couple of bottles of these shampoo last year when she spend some time witch us while we where in France. She really loved this shampoo and wanted to have new bottles of the shampoo. Carrefour has no stores in the Netherlands but besides in France they also have super markets in Belgium. So we took a day off to go to Belgium. I decided to take a look at the internet to find some fabric stores so I could buy some fabric for my mother as well as for the white skirt for our youngest daughter.
Buying shampoo and Fabric hunt
Carrefour was found and being there in this big supermarket we also bought some Belgium beer besides the shampoo. I also came across a Veritas Creatief Magazine while I was taking a look at the book and magazine department. I had never seen this magazine before and decided to buy it as well. After a cup of coffee it was time to go the fabric shop. I found PP Textiel on the internet and PP Textiel seemed to be the nearest by the Carrefour. PP Textiel is housed in a so called Kiekeskot (Henhouse). They also sell curtain fabrics and table fabrics. I found the black white stripe for my mother but not the white skirt.
Drafting and sewing the Homemade Black White striped asymmetric cut Top
While the fabric was pre-washed I started drafting the pattern. The pattern is a plane T-shirt in the size of my mother. I draw the cutting lines and after that the fabric was cut. This wasn’t a complex sewing job and after a few our hours and a fitting session the Top was ready. I ended with some quirky looking leftover pieces of fabric. I’ve already been playing with the leftovers and have some ideas in my head.

My mother is pleased with the result. She loves the asymmetrical look and the way the stripes are running. The asymmetrical neckline was a surprise for her and she loves the effect. I came up with this neckline while I was sewing. One of those things that happens during the process when your making clothes. The Homemade Black White striped asymmetric cut Top has also the 3/4 length sleeve she asked for. The fabric feels soft and is a joy to wear.

Homemade Black White striped asymmetric cut Top is gemaakt voor mijn moeder. Zij wide graag nog een Top nadat ik deze voor haar gemaakt had. Zij vertelde dat ze graag een zwart/witte of blauw/witte streep wilde. Ik vroeg of ze het leuk vond om iets met de strepen te ‘doen’ in de vorm van een asymmetrical look. Ik maakte een schetsje dat mijn moeder aanstond en nam het mee naar huis.
Een Belgisch uitstapje
Ik heb geen enorme stofvoorraad en de iets zwaardere kwaliteit stof die mijn moeder deze keer wilde zat er zeker niet tussen. Onze jongste had vorig jaar terwijl zij bij ons op bezoek in Frankrijk had shampoo gekocht bij Carrefour. Zij kocht toen een paar flessen maar idea waren ondertussen op. Carrefour is de enige die het merk verkoopt en omdat ze zo tevreden was over deze shampoo wide ze er graag weer een paar hebben. Carrefour heeft ook vestigingen in België en we besloten er een dagje voor vrij te maken. Met dit tripje in mijn achterhoofd besloot ik te kijken of er ook stoffenwinkels in de buurt waren.
Shampoo kopen en stoffen zoeken
Carrefour werd gevonden en naast de shampoo kochten we ook nog wat Belgische bier. Ik liep wat rond in de Carrefour en vond op de tijdschriften- en boekenafdeling een Veritas Creatief. Ik kende dit tijdschrift niet en besloot het te kopen. Na een kop koffie was het tijd om op zoek te gaan naar de stoffenwinkel. PP Textiel leek volgens internet het dichtste bij de Carrefour die wij bezochten. PP Textiel is gevestigd in een Kiekeskot (kippenschuur). Zij verkopen ook nog gordijnstoffen en tafelzeil. Ik vond wel de zwart/witte streep voor mijn moeder maar niet de witte stof voor de rok.
De Homemade Black White striped asymmetric cut Top Tekenen en Maken
Terwijl de stof werd voorgewassen werkte ik ondertussen de schets uit. Het patroon is een basis T-shirt dat de maten van mijn moeder heeft. Ik tekende de kniplijnen erin en kon vervolgens de stof gaan knippen. Daarna kon het in elkaar gezet worden. Na een paar uur stikken en een passessie was de Top klaar. Ik heb nu nog wel een paar vreemde stukken stof over waar ik al een paar ideeën voor heb.

Mijn moeder is tevreden met het resultaat. Zij vind de asymmetrische look zeer geslaagd en ook de manier waarop de strepen verwerkt zijn. De asymmetrische halslijn was een verrassing voor haar. Ze vindt het een geweldig idee. Ik kwam op het idee terwijl ik achter de naaimachine zat en bij toeval ontstaat als je bezig bent. De Homemade Black White striped asymmetric cut Top heeft ook de gewenste een 3/4 mouw. De stof voelt heerlijk op haar huid en draagt heerlijk.

Thank you so much Sarah. I have a (simple and basic) letter option on my sewing machine. My husband encouraged me to mark all the garments I make with my own label. My mother loved to wear unique clothes with bold colours like black, red and yellow. She hardly finds them and all the RTW clothes for her age are boring and the brownish colour scheme they use.
