Sewing Massimo Dutti Overhemd – the pattern

Sewing Massimo Dutti Overhemd is made of a pattern that can be found in the first Dutch edition of the Spanish Patrones. It’s called Fashion Style and I showed it a while ago in this blogpost. The overhemd is described as a Japanese Styled dress shirt with dropped shoulder line, batwing short sleeves, added sleeves to make long sleeves and a Mao collar. I’ve made one alteration. The pattern has a straight front placket which seemed to be a bit odd in my opinion because the finished version has a kind of V-shaped neckline. I drafted a front placket that follows that shape. It was added to the front pattern while cutting and also cut twice to make the front placket for the buttonholes on the right side and for the buttons on the left side. My version of the Massimo Dutti Overhemd is made in size 38.

Sewing Massimo Dutti Overhemd – the fabric

The fabric came from my stash. I bought it almost three years ago because I loved the color, the little harts and the satin look. This fabric was perfect for the Massimo Dutti Japanese Styled dress shirt. I had to puzzle a while with my pattern piece because I had less fabric then this pattern asks for. Laying the fabric flat unfolded on the table and then all the pattern pieces individually on the fabric made a huge difference. After cutting it was easy to sew together. Although I don’t use every time a new needle when I start a project I decided that I would break this time with this rule. After some test sewing I had the best result using an universal sewing needle size 70.

Sewing Massimo Dutti Overhemd – the finished Massimo Dutti Overhemd

The Massimo Dutti Overhemd looks great on my jeans. It was in fact special made for this jeans and also for this chino and it’s make a beautiful combination with my Cardigan styled Chanel jacket. It’s the perfect outfit for appointments and other social duties and activities. I like the buttons. They are transparent and have small coloured details. I’ve used them before and was lucky that they were still available. The small pleats in the neckline are a nice added detail and they give the Massimo Dutti Overhemd just that different look that I love and looking after.

Sewing Massimo Dutti Overhemd – my experience with the Fashion Style magazine

This is the first time that I’m using a Patrones pattern. Besides the alteration of the front placket there was also a pocket flap mentioned that I wasn’t able to find although I’ve looked for the pattern piece on the pattern sheets a several times. It was also very unclear were it should be placed at the dress shirt. Although the sewing instructions are vey basic there was enough information to sew the Massimo Dutti Overhemd together even that one would be a starter.

Sewing Massimo Dutti Overhemd – Massimo Dutti Overhemd eindversie

    • Thank you Sue. I was also looking for the Patrones magazine for a long time. The shipping costs are high and I really was happy when this Dutch version was released and available in shops. Sadly this is the still the only one.
