Looking like Audrey Hepburn is mijn tweede outfit voor de KNIPster 2016 wedstrijd van KNIPmode. Stemmen kan vanaf nu tot a.s. woensdag 12.00.
The new Look and Christian Dior
In 1947 Christian Dior introduced ‘The New Look’. The skirts were small, nipped-in the waist and a below mid-calf length. The jackets were well fitted with a soft feminine shoulder line. These style was taken into the 50s and combined with fabrics that had patterns like gingham, polkadots and stripes. Instead of making a wide skirt with a petticoat I decided to go for a different style. Searching on the internet I came across these two actrices: Brigitte Bardot and Audrey Hepburn. Both wear the in the 50s populair capri-pants, but they look different.
In 1947 introduceerde Dior ‘The New Look’: wijde rokken tot op de kuit, wespentaille, sterk getailleerde jasjes en een zachte vrouwelijke schouderlijn. Deze invloeden werden meegenomen naar de 50s en gecombineerd met stoffen die patronen hadden zoals de gingham, polkadots en streepjes. Inplaats te kiezen voor de overbekende wijde rok met petticoat besloot ik op zoek te gaan naar een andere stijl. Zoekend op het internet kwam ik deze twee actrices tegen: Brigitte Bardot en Audrey Hepburn. Beide dragen de in de 50s populaire capri-pants, maar de look is totaal verschillend.
Making my Looking like Audrey Hepburn outfit
Looking like Audrey Hepburn is my interpretation of black outfit Audrey Hepburn is wearing in the picture above. The then famous capri-pants is made of a polkadot fabric with stretch.
The hem has a slit, the waistband is finished with a red polkadot bias band on the inside and the invisible zipper is places in the center back seam. This red bias band is also used for the matching stud earrings and wrist bracelet. The top is made of a striped stretched fabric and has a boatneck with a to the front placed shoulder line. The striped fabric is a little reminder of the in 1957 released ‘Jailhouse Rock’. If you’re interested you can watch the video’s of the make (Sorry but it’s in Dutch, but you can see some details) The outfit is styled with red accessories: a big red belt to accentuate the waist and red flat shoes. Going outside a cardigan can be worn over the shoulders without inserting the arms into the cardigan with a small red striped ribbon brooch while wearing the Ray-Ban Wayfarer sunglasses manufactured Ray-Ban since 1956.
Zo maakte ik mijn Looking like Audrey Hepburn outfit
Looking like Audrey Hepburn is mijn interpretatie van de zwarte outfit die Audrey Hepburn draagt in de foto hierboven. De toen populaire capri-pants is gemaakt van stretch polkadot stof. De zoom heeft een splitje, de tailleband is aan de binnenkant is afgewerkt met breed rood polkadot biaisband en de blinde rits zit in de middenachternaad Hetzelfde biaisband is ook gebruikt voor de bijpassende ontstekers en armband. Daarop wordt een topje gedragen dat een boothals heeft waarvan de schoudernaad iets naar voren valt. Dit topje is gemaakt van streepjesstof: een knipoog naar Elvis Presley liedje uit 1957 ‘Jailhouse Rock’. Hier kun je de video bekijken over het maken van deze outfit. Bij deze outfit wordt een brede rode ceintuur gedragen om de taille te accenturen en rode flatjes. Om even snel naar buiten te kunnen gaan kan een zwart verstje gedragen worden zonder de armen in de mouwen te steken met een rood gestreept strikje als brooche samen met de beroemde Ray-Ban Wayfarer die sinds 1956 wordt geproduceerd.

Looking like Audrey Hepburn – The Patterns
Capri-pants: model 15 KNIPmode 2013-05. The capri-pants is made 4 cm higher. The original waistband is replaced for a straight waistband. The visible zipper in the center front is replaced by a invisible zipper in the center back.
Striped Top: model 6 KNIPmode 2005-04. The boatneck is done by cutting 1.8 cm extra for making an extra band of fabric for the topstitching. The extra fabric is also cut for the shoulder seams. The topstitching is running from armpit to armpit.
Broek: model 15 uit KNIPmode 2013-05. De broek is 4 cm hoger geknipt dan het model. De in vorm geknipte tailleband is vervangen door een rechte tailleband. De ‘gulp’ is vervangen door een onzichtbare rits die ingezet is in middenachternaad.
Streep top: model 6 uit KNIPmode 2005-04. Voor de boothals is een naadtoeslag van 1.8cm toegevoegd. Deze toeslag is meegenomen in de schoudernaad. Na het stikken van de schoudernaad is deze toeslag in een keer doorgestikt vastgezet van armsgat naar armsgat.
